|Now Here’s the News is designed for English as a Second Language students at Canadian Language Benchmarks levels Five and Six. Using the format of a news broadcast, the book and CD accustom students to the topics, vocabulary, style and speed of delivery of the language used in radio and television news reports.
The news stories are set in Metro Vancouver, and local street and place names are used. The news story language is informal in the ‘West Coast’ style, typical of what the students really hear on local radio and television news shows. It focuses on topics in the news that are relevant in a practical or entertaining way to ESL students’ daily lives.
